Marketing guru/author Seth Godin recently wrote a post entitled "When in doubt, (don't) follow the money." We found it to be interesting and timely as it directly relates to what we've been doing by giving away the albums Overtime and Spare Time. A lot of people have asked why we're giving these projects away and many have even asked when they'll be able to purchase an album from Damu. We're giving them away because Damu wants you to hear his music. That's it. There's not much more to it. We'll definitely let you know when something else is available via this blog and via email if you're on our list, but in the meantime, enjoy the music.
Thanks again for your support.
Here's a quote from Seth's post:
"No, people (most people) don't do things only for money. There's usually a minimum threshold that gets someone to pick a job and stick with it, but beyond that, the things we do are expressions of who we are and what we love and the impact we wish to make, not selfish acts designed to earn a few extra bucks."

Damu doesn't need to prove anything to me. I know he has great skills, his youtube clips, also his deleted ones speak for itself. What seperates him to me already at this stage from a LOT of producers (and I'm talking bout the oldschool producers, not the shit-hop today): he has the golden ear. Something that I have heard before in this quality, complexity and constance on "godfather" pete rock's work. The style is superior and not just copyable. It's not about finding the right loop, it's about creating and composing. Something only Pete Rock did in this perfection.
Damu is on the right way.
So, coming back to intention bout Damu's releases mentioned by the author: he wants his music to be heard, also promote his work.
I think Damu is not far away from the real breakthrough, at least in the underground hiphop scnene. He will have a breakthrough if he can convince an all-star mc legend to rap over one of his beats. Damu wants to be heard, his fans want him to make beats. With a famous MC on a dope beat, it will make everything easier for him in the future.
Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE, Cl Smooth, AZ, NAS, Kool G Rap, Inspectah Deck...hope they'll spit one day over a damu beat!
