Go Ahead

"Go Ahead ... Make My Day."

We've been quiet on this blog but that doesn't mean we haven't been working ... you know Damu has a dayjob, right?! This music stuff does not pay his bills, so after he's done at the 9-5, grabs something to eat, does the laundry or whatever, there really isnt all that much time left for music. Never the less, he's EXTREMELY productive given the limits, so we're getting ready for a busy 2009 which will see the release of several Damu instrumental projects, a couple Y Society LPs and then some. Hopefully we get to the point where he can go out and tour, and ditch that job. While we have some projects reserved for indie labels run by those we're familiar and comfortable with, we're mainly gonna go the DIY route and drop some of these on our own through Redefinition Records, which is basically Damu & myself handling everything from budgets to distribution. That means we'll be coming out of pocket to press em (we're not ditching vinyl) and promote em, so hopefully that goes well and we don't take a loss. As we always say, whether the project is for free or for fee, your support means a everything.

Moving along, I have some good news and some bad news... The Good: A couple weeks ago, Damu wrapped up a really crazy conceptual instrumental record that he put about two months of his hard work into. It's called "Collisions" and it's probably the dopest instrumental album I've ever heard. I don't wanna oversell it but I had to say it ... From the cover, to the samples, to some of his arrangements, it all connects back to one point of interest. You'll understand when you hear it. The bad news? It's not gonna be released til next fall (Fall 09!). In general, its a darker and moodier LP than what you may have come to expect from Damu.

That leads to the next point of this post: Let go of your expectations. You might not expect a vocal LP from Damu, but in time, he might record one (maybe NEXT, NEXT year, lol). You might expect Damu to tell you "how to plug your MPC into your speakers" if you send him a message on youtube asking for a tutorial, but he probably wont have time to help you out. (lol, but seriously!) You may not have expected Damu to do a song with Buff1, but Buff just recorded his vocals and its DOPE!

More good news: "Revengeance" is almost complete and it will be released through Redefinition Records sometime within the first quarter of 09 on CD, vinyl and mp3 (feels like mid Feb-March). There were about 50 beats or so in mind for this one, so Damu just needs to narrow down the final selections, sequence it, and add the finishing touches. It's kinda like a score to an old movie you never saw.

Again, Revengeance is prob not what you've come to expect based on the Time series and Y Society. The title should give you a good idea as far the sonic direction on this project. Joe Buck is doing the art on this one as well. You may or may not be familiar with his name, but you've seen Joe's work before but probably just didnt know it was him (De La Soul Is Dead, Overtime, etc). More info on this will be available as we get closer to wrapping it up and preparing it for release. Check out Joe's ReVisions series as well in which he'll be covering LP covers. In 09, we're gonna collab with him on a few covers, but we'll get into that in another post.

Finally, for those who asked if we can post some of the footage from recent performances. Yes We Can. I told you that I would be posting a clip from the NYC Fat Beats in-store before the month is through, and I will. Soon. I'm not gonna post a full show or anything, prob 2 minutes or so, but something will def go up soon. What I really wanna post is the collage video that we did which is running right now at Civilian Art Projects in DC until Dec 27th, but I have to hold off. If you read this whole message, all the way til this point, I hope you found this long post informative and that you're looking forward to Revengeance, Collisions, Joe's ReVisions and everything else that's in the works. Again - THANK YOU for the support and I know you're gonna appreciate the next wave of projects. Finally, if you're on Facebook, join the Official Damu group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55988291310

Hey Damu,

Hey man...hope you get to this. But I want to let you know that I truely appreciate all the great crate diggin music you've given to me and to every other listener that has heard your stuff.

I grooved out plenty of times to your Y society LP driving in the hellish roads of Northern VA and D.C.

Song on: Scientist

Anyways man just wanted to drop a quick line and wish you a Happy Christmas in whatever you do! Seriously.

Not to stalk you out too hard...but I'll drop another line/comment on here in weeks to come.

- Joe
